Assistant Professor of Religion

Religion Department Profile

Dr. Hazard's research focuses on religious print media in the nineteenth-century United States, and investigates aspects of material texts including publisher's bindings, colportage, typography, evangelical benevolent publishing, printing technologies, and readers' marks and marginalia. These interests converge in her book manuscript, Makers of the Sensible, about the American Tract Society, the antebellum publishing goliath that circulated billions of pages of books, tracts, and newspapers in hopes of converting the nation to Christianity.
