These poems provide glimpses into the lives of women—and one or two men—who, without the usual ties and responsibilities, live in and out of suitcases. They travel on to keep from thinking, to keep from settling, and to keep from being found out. Their experiences are diverse, but they have in common the search for who they are, and who they can—or have—become. They are cool, but not too cool to care. They are wounded, but not always mortally. They make it through days, for better or for worse. Sometimes, they rest. Sometimes, they tell jokes. Always, they rehearse.
