Literature of the South: Nature, Gender, Class, Race

In this course, we will explore a variety of texts from and about the American South, with special attention to how the natural environment shapes Southern culture. Graduate students will be expected to pursue literary research on a topic related to the course which will be presented to the class. They will also produce a 16-20 page paper which MAY (with the permission of the instructor) be creative with a scholarly apparatus.
