Perspectives on the Short Story
Oluwafunke Ogunya
WMS 321
This course will provide an overview of the literary genre of the short story through the close reading and analysis of works by authors of different genders, races, cultures, and eras. Exercising critical thinking skills and a sense of connectivity, students will explore how these authors use the genre to communicate various aspects of the human experience. This course will also help students comprehend and interpret different levels of meaning in a text as influenced by form, style, and genre; by the cultural and historical contexts in which the text was written; and by the author’s experiences.
