ENC 5317 Fall 2017 Diane Roberts
This is a workshop course. Students will produce 20-30 pages: stand-alone essays, linked short pieces or part of a larger work which might be memoir, personal essay, travel or nature writing, investigative work - nonfiction is a broad church. I would hope that some of you would try to publish this work. Indeed, we will discuss newspapers, journals, magazines, online sites, etc., as well as how to write a nonfiction book proposal.
In addition, we will be writing a radio essay for possible reading and recording on Florida Public Radio - Creative Writing has a designated slot during Sunday "All Things Considered." Your grade is based on the quality and seriousness (not that your stuff can't be funny) of the work and the revisions you produce.
Requirements: This course fulfills 3 credit hours of the academic requirement for the Certificate in Editing and Publishing. If a student has already met the academic requirement, the course can count for additional credits toward the 12-hour Certificate.
