ENL 3334 Fall 2024 - Sevin
This course aims to deepen your appreciation and comprehension of Shakespearean literature by closely examining his works within the social and historical context of early modern England. Over the semester, we will explore Shakespearean drama from several thematic lenses, including race, gender, and politics. Alongside reading playtexts, we will watch modern adaptations of Shakespeare, in both stage and screen formats. These adaptations will help us think about how Shakespeare imagines the past in continuity with the present, and how we might draw from the resources of the past to imagine new ways that can inform our views of gender, race, and politics.
All class materials will be available through FSU libraries and on Canvas.
This class meets the pre-1800 requirement.
