The Short Story
Sarah Robinson
This course is designed for upper-level graduate students curious about the short story form as readers and/or writers. Through the examination of a diverse array of short stories from the nineteenth through twenty-first centuries, we will learn to identify craft elements (form, narrative voice, plot, setting, characterization, etc.), explore the way they work in concert with theme, and ultimately consider how these works connect to the broader culture. Classwork will include close reading, discussions, written assignments, and presentations.
