LIT 2030 Summer 2023 KT
LIT 2030 demystifies poetry for its newest scholars of the craft. Students need not have a robust background in reading or writing poetry—rather a healthy curiosity is highly encouraged. This course studies both the formal and technical elements of poetry through studying such poets as Sappho and torrin a. greathouse, with some student practice in writing and performing their own poetry. Students will learn myriad poetic forms and techniques from antiquity to the present: their complex histories, how to architect them perfectly, how to smash them into smithereens, how to know when to do both and why. After closely reading, listening to, pondering, discussing, writing, revising, critiquing, and performing poetry over the course of a semester, students will possess the foundational tools necessary to continue practicing in our shared poetic tradition.
