RWC consultants are ready to assist students with assignments

In need of help on a writing project this summer?

Florida State University’s Reading-Writing Center is open again for the 2023 Summer B semester until Aug. 4.

The RWC is a free resource for any current FSU student; all majors, programs, and backgrounds are welcome. Students can schedule an appointment with one of the center’s trained RWC consultants, who specialize in several different disciplines and fields, including rhetoric and composition; literature, media and culture; and creative writing.

They can help students with any type of writing assignment, such as research papers, literature reviews, and dissertations, as well as with creative writing such as short stories, poetry, personal essays.

“What's more, we work with students on applications and personal statements for all sorts of things ranging from national grants and scholarships to local job positions they are applying for,” says Emilio Carrero, a consultant for the RWC and Digital Studio. Carrero is a doctoral student in English-Creative Writing. “Also, our Digital Studio can help with visual projects such as digital posters, presentations, and websites.”

RWC consultants, who are undergraduate and graduate students in the English department, are available to help students at any stage of the writing process.

“For example, we get students who come in wanting to talk through their ideas before they start writing, and other times students are stuck on a particular part of their paper and would like to get a neutral reader's opinion,” Carrero says. “We can work with students at any stage including brainstorming, organizing, and revising.”

The RWC, located in the Williams Building on the second floor in room 222, is open for both in-person and Zoom appointments which can be made online. In-person or Zoom sessions are available Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday is Zoom-only sessions from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Digital Studio is unfortunately closed for the summer, but Carrero reassures that the RWC “can still help with visual projects such as E-Portfolios, presentations, and digital fliers.”
