LIT 3622 - Fall 2026 - Crockett
This course considers how literature and literary criticism respond to ecological and climatological change. We will begin with an introduction to ecocriticism as a defined area of interest within English studies, then move into reading novels, criticism, and theory within several defined subfields of ecocrit. Some potential areas of focus: queer/trans* ecologies, environmental posthumanism, postcolonial ecocriticism, critical animal studies, ecofeminism, and new materialism. Three works of fiction likely to be included on the syllabus are The Deep by Rivers Solomon, The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin, and Manhunt by Gretchen Felker-Martin.
This course counts toward the English 2000+ level electives requirement.
