Senior Seminar in Lit: Writing Wild Women
Celia Caputi

A reading-intensive exploration of the trope of the "wild" or transgressive woman in literature from Shakespeare to Morrison and beyond, and also considers the question: to what degree is writing itself a transgressive, emancipatory, or "wild" action on the part of women in a patriarchal culture? The required readings span a variety of genres and represent diverse cultural perspectives, the goal being to foster lively discussions in the spirit of intersectional feminism. NB: this course is HARD COPY ONLY, meaning required readings must be purchased in book format (no e-books/kindle). The use of personal electronic devices (I-phones, laptops, tablets, etc.) in class is also strictly prohibited unless ADA-related.
