This course discusses film as a means of exploring the problems of genre studies: relationship to literary genres, historical continuity, transformation of genre in the film medium. From science fiction to the war movie, we'll look at a wide range of film genres and the literature that inspired them. We will pay special attention to films that bend genre and altogether break definition.
