LIT 2000 Fall 2024 - McHale
This course surveys a wide range of global, twentieth century literature and culture with the aim of investigating topics such as nature, diaspora, humanism, and in a broad sense, how authors and artists negotiate difference. Students will explore these topics and others through close reading of key literary elements such as plot, character, setting, genre, and figurative language. Our explorations will be informed by critical insights drawn from ecocriticism, feminist studies, postcolonial studies, and other theoretical frameworks. The course provides a groundwork in literary types for non-majors and is also strongly recommended as a preparation for upper-level (3000- or 4000-level) coursework in the field.
