This course engages students in the art of understanding and analyzing poetry as a genre. We will examine poetic forms, themes, techniques, and devices in poetry across the 20th and 21st century. The aim of the course is to learn how poems are constructed as well as the beauty and insight that they can offer us when read closely. We will explore various mediums in which poetry is performed including written, spoken word, and audiovisual.
