How did you decide on English-EWM as your major?

I chose English-EWM as my major because I have always had a knack for writing, and I want to pursue that as a potential career path. English has been my strongest subject since I was in elementary school, so it just made sense to continue practicing and perfecting my writing skills in college.

What was your favorite part about being an English major?

My favorite part about being an English major was learning real-life, applicable skills from my classes. Learning how to write professionally is a task in and of itself, but I also learned how to create a solid resume, cover letter, and portfolio, each of which will help me in my search for a job.

What one memory of your time at FSU do you think I’ll always remember?

My favorite memory at FSU was during my freshman year when I went to my first-ever Florida State Seminoles football game. I had never been to a collegiate football game before, and I felt so excited to be a part of something so exciting and new. I vividly remember the military flying over the stadium and the planting of the spear by Chief Osceola and Renegade. At the time, I didn't know the words to the fight song, so I just cheered along with the other students, and by the next game, I was ready to sing with them.

What does it mean to you to graduate Cum Laude?

Graduating Cum Laude means the world to me. It reminds me that I can do anything I set my mind to. I am incredibly proud of myself for persevering through difficult times, especially with COVID-19 adding extra obstacles along the way.

What would you tell a student who is considering English as their major?

If I were to give advice to a student considering English as their major, I would advise them to absolutely make sure that they have a passion for writing. Being an English major comes with a lot of writing. From research essays to creative pieces and unique projects, writing is going to be the center of their universe in the EWM major. If they do love writing and want to make a career out of it, then I couldn't speak highly enough of the English department at FSU. The teachers are phenomenal and truly care about their students. I feel as if I am leaving Florida State with skills that will help me both in life and with my career.

What are your post-graduation plans?

Post-graduation, I plan on staying home with my family and taking a little break from writing. I want to eventually get a job in the content writing area, hopefully with a travel magazine company. My passion is traveling and exploring new places, so I would love to combine my writing skills with a career in travel.
