How did you decide to choose English-EWM as your major?

I chose FSU for the EWM track. I was the editor-in-chief of my high school's yearbook for two years, where my passion for writing turned into a love for editing and all things behind-the-scenes. I've known since then that I want to go into publishing. EWM seemed like the perfect mixture of traditional theory and modern technology—and I was right. EWM has prepared me for the modern aspects of a career in editing and publishing.

What does it mean to you to graduate Summa Cum Laude?

It means a lot to me to graduate Summa Cum Laude. I grew up in a low-class home, and at times I wasn't sure if I would even be able to make it to college. To have come this far and to graduate with such a high distinction, when I sometimes felt like I couldn't mentally handle finishing at all, makes me feel so proud. I'm proud that I stuck it out, that I stayed committed and focused, and that I reached out for help when I needed it so I could be successful—mentally and academically.

What was your favorite part of being an English major?

I think one of my favorite parts about being an English major was feeling so comfortable in class. I was surrounded by other students who had similar interests and passions, and when you're in an environment like that, it really allows learning and conversation to blossom!

What one memory of your time at FSU do you think I’ll always remember?

One memory that stands out to me from my time at FSU will always be when I went "fountain hopping" one night on campus with a group of friends my freshman year. Sure, I did bigger things like attend carnivals and football games, pull all-nighters in Strozier, and get thrown into the Wescott Fountain on my 21st birthday, but this night was one of the first nights I remember feeling like I was truly a part of campus, so it always sticks out in my mind.

What would you tell a student who is considering English as a major?

I would tell them to go for it! My experience in FSU's English department has been nothing short of amazing. It has only solidified my interest in this career path, and I learned so much about the field from my classes. My only advice would be you get what you put into it, so take classes that actually interest you!

What are your post-graduation plans?

Currently, I'm interning with a company called Love What Matters, and I'm switching to working for them full-time after graduation. Who knows where this experience will lead me! Since I strictly edit for them, I plan to write on the side, with hopes of publishing some fiction works one day.
