Department of English Awards for the 2022-23 academic year

By Giana Nardelli

The Department of English held its annual awards ceremony Friday, April 14, in the Dodd Hall Auditorium. Francis Cushing Ervin Professor of English Aaron Jaffe offered the ceremony’s opening remarks, with Robert O. Lawton Distinguished Professor of English David Kirby delivering welcoming remarks.

Thirty-one undergraduate and graduate students won awards for their writing, teaching, or scholarship work for the 2022-23 academic year. Doctoral candidates Daniel Raschke (Literature, Media, and Culture) and Chris Watkins (Creative Writing) were this year’s co-winners of the Edward H. and Marie C. Kingsbury Fellowship award. English-Editing, Writing, and Media student and Spring 2023 alumna Aisha Louis won the Fred L. Stanley Award for Undergraduate Excellence. English-Creative Writing alumna Rebecca Orchard (Ph.D. 2023) was awarded the Bertram and Ruth Davis Award for Outstanding Career as a Graduate Student.

Jaffe was chair of this year’s Awards Committee. The committee also included Associate Professor Skip Horack, Assistant Professor Ronisha Browdy, and Assistant Professor Ali Sperling. The ceremony concluded with Jaffe’s closing remarks, and all attendees were welcomed to the post-awards ceremony hosted in the Williams Building Common Room.
