ENG2012 – Spring 2027 – Tamrakar Tuladhar

This course serves as a foundational gateway for students entering the English major. This course exposes students to the pleasure of reading, writing and using language effectively. Familiarizing students with different acts of reading, writing, studying, and learning that are involved in the English major, it demonstrates how English Studies can be central to both college study and career choices. Not limited to developing technical and mechanical skills of reading and writing in English, the course encourages students to consider and how English encompasses multiple areas, including literature, language, media, theory, film, and digital technologies. Students investigate how these areas engage, reflect, and shape human experiences. Through the analysis of the various genres and texts – such as poetry, prose, digital media posts, and film – students will not only enhance their critical, interpretive, and analytical skills but also consider questions of ethics, life, and civic responsibilities. The course encourages students to engage with various texts; enhance critical thinking; and participate in close-reading and analysis of various texts and genres. Ultimately, this course invites students to understand how the use of English language connects them with the world they live in.
