21st Century Scripts

This class introduces students to scriptwriting texts and techniques. Through the study of exemplary models of scriptwriting, students will become familiar with the conventions, genres, and strategies of the Television Pilot. Save the Cat Writes for TV by Jamie Nash will be the foundation alongside analyzing successful pilots (Fleabag, Beef, Abbott Elementary. Students will learn key storytelling beats and unwritten rules of TV writing. Through workshops and writing exercises, they will develop their own pilot scripts, refining their technical and aesthetic awareness. Scripts will contain a single narrative over the series arc. By the end of the course, students will complete a polished draft of a TV pilot & a series bible.
This course fulfills the Upper Division Writing requirement.
