Major Figures in American Literature

This course examines selected works of major American writers, where we will be looking at the works of the "uncanny femme." We will navigate a survey of prominent female American writers throughout major genres and historical contexts, authors who require us to subvert the liminal stratums above, below, behind, and right in front of the male gaze. Authors of interest--who aim to make the familiar deeply unfamiliar--include Shirley Jackson, Flannery O'Connor, Octavia Butler, and Min Jin Lee.
This course fulfills the State-Mandated Writing (W) credit.
