This course poses the question: Did the South win the Civil War? We’ll explore this provocative idea through readings in literature and history, particularly novels by William Faulkner, Ralph Ellison, Randall Kenan and others, as well as nonfiction by Ta-Nehisi Coates and W.J. Cash. This course satisfies the requirement for coursework in the following Areas of Concentration: Literary and Cultural Studies of the Long 20th and 21st centuries and a Literary Genre (Fiction).
