Poetic Technique: Lyric Voice & Experimentation
Natalie Patterson

What can a poem do? In this course, we will explore the fundamentals of writing poems, challenge our conceptions of poetry, and embrace experimentation. We will read, write, and discuss poetry in a low-stakes, creative environment, cultivating our personal interests and surprising ourselves with lyric possibility. Activities will include generative and reflective writing, workshops, revision, and conversations about poems and craft readings. We’ll emphasize contemporary lyric poetry, poetic voice, and the defying of traditional conventions. Together, we’ll explore the sheer range of what a poem can be, and who you can be as a poet. Bring your questions, curiosities, and obsessions. Writers of all experience are welcome.
