Intro to African-American Literature: History, Modality, and the Vodou Tradition
Lucy Robertson
This course offers a survey of major works by African-American writers, typically including Douglass, Chesnutt, Hurston, Wright, Ellison, Baldwin, Morrison, and Walker. We will examine the evolution of Black American literature by examining slavery narratives, the Harlem Renaissance, and Afro-futurism through lenses of cultural modality, folklore, Louisiana Voodoo, and Haitian Vodou. This course satisfies requirements for CORE FSU and University graduation through Exploring the Human Exp and the State-mandated Writing (W credit).
