Fall 2020 alumnus spotlight

Brandon Hutchinson

Major concentration: Creative Writing

How did you decide to choose English-Creative Writing as your major?

I actually started out as a business finance major, but after taking a creative writing elective course my sophomore year, I fell in love with the faculty and the students who had a passion for writing. It was a no-brainer to me to switch focuses.

What was your favorite part of being an English major?

My favorite part of the major was being surrounded by people from all walks of life. Everybody had their own interpretations and perspectives which made for great group discussions when sharing our work.

What one memory of your time at FSU do you think I’ll always remember?

Group movie nights at the Student Life Center.

What would you tell a student who is considering English as their major?

I would tell them that it is going to take a great deal of dedication, but the friendships and knowledge that you will gain is irreplaceable.

What are your post-graduation plans?

I'm moving to Dallas, Texas, for a job at an investment firm. I will continue to work on my craft, self publish some more books, and get my portfolio ready for when I apply to screenwriting fellowships.
