Florida State recently served as a crossroads where generations of alumni and professors from Ohio State University and UNC Chapel Hill were reacquainted. A reunion of sorts for Patrick Mullen, Trudier Harris and our own Lisa Lakes, Tomeiko Ashford, and Dennis Moore, the Literature Colloquium "Investigating Intersections: Folklore, Literature & Legend" was more like a meeting among old friends. With presentations that contemplated the importance of Cinderella, eating black-eyed peas on New Year's Eve, and "slasher quilts" that force us to reconcile the past, the visiting scholars critically engaged the FSU English department family in a discussion of “folklore and literature as equal complex cultural processes.” The event was well attended and the q&a sessions spawned lively conversations among those in attendance. With folklorist in our midst, the department listened, while many a story was told.

Thanks to everyone who attended and made our guests welcomed. They are already eager to return!!!
