Curriculum and Requirements: Overview

CORE REQUIREMENTS

Students must take all 3 courses (9 hours).*

  1. ENC 3021: Rhetoric (Spring Only)
  2. ENC 3416: Writing and Editing in Print and Online
  3. ENG 3803: History of Text Technologies

ADVANCED REQUIREMENTS

Students must take at least 3 courses (9 hours) from the following list.

  1. ENC 4218: Visual Rhetoric in the Digital Age
  2. ENG 4834: Issues in Publishing
  3. ENC 4212: Editing: Manuscripts, Documents, Reports
  4. ENG 4020: Rhetorical Theory and Practice
  5. ENG 3804: History of Illustrated Texts: Illuminated Manuscripts to Graphic Novels
  6. ENC 4404: Advanced Writing and Editing

INTERNSHIP IN EDITING / PUBLISHING

(3 hours)

  1. ENC 4942: Internship in Editing

3 ELECTIVES IN ENGLISH COURSES AT THE 3000 OR 4000 LEVEL

Approved Computer Literacy Course

* It is recommended that the Core Requirements be taken before the Advanced Requirements. Core Requirements are not recommended for first-year students.
** A minor in another department and foreign language through the intermediate or 2220 level are also required.
*** All coursework must be complete with a C- or higher.
